SJ Pet Palace: Tarantula 毛蜘蛛

Tarantula are a group of hairy and often very large spiders belonging to the family Theraphosidae, of which approximately 900 species have been identified. All tarantulas can produce silk; while arboreal species will typically reside in a silken "tube tent", terrestrial species will line their burrows with silk to stabilize the burrow wall and facilitate climbing up and down. The biggest tarantulas can kill animals as large as lizards, mice, and birds. Tarantulas are found in tropical and desert regions around the world. Most tarantulas are harmless to humans, and some species are popular in the exotic pet trade. Genera regarded as suitable for beginners are typically little inclined to bite and possess venom that is not medically significant to humans. Other species, while not known to have ever produced human fatalities, have venom that can produce extreme discomfort over a period of several days.

毛蜘蛛是一种拥有很多毛还可以长得很大的蜘蛛品种叫Theraphosidae,在世界上有超过900种类的蜘蛛已经被发现。全部毛蜘蛛都会织网，分别是在多还是少而已，有些只是把一层很薄的网织在地上用来感应猎物的所在地，有些会把网弄到周围都是，尤其是树型的蜘蛛。除此之外，毛蜘蛛还会挖洞来隐藏自己。大多数的蜘蛛都不会自动伤害人类的，还有很品种是被视为大众化的另类宠物。那些比较适合新手的品种都是一些毒性较低的品种，不过，也有些毛蜘蛛咬到人会死的或者会让伤者感到不舒服几天。
